The IAFP is 2,400 members strong, representing family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students from all over Indiana. The Academy is the only association that speaks solely for family medicine physicians and offers assistance to family physicians in virtually all aspects of their practice:
- The IAFP represents family physicians before the state legislature, at governmental and regulatory agencies, organized medicine and third party reimbursement groups.
- The IAFP provides CME conferences and hands-on workshops, including the Annual Scientific Assembly and other CME activities, which are planned especially for family physicians by family physicians. These high-quality CME programs provide opportunities to earn approved CME credit hours while networking with other professionals. Special registration fees are offered to all IAFP members.
- Region chapter activities of the IAFP offers members an opportunity to meet with colleagues and keep pace with local issues affecting the family physician.
- The IAFP works for fair reimbursement. As an advocate for the family physician, the IAFP maintains a close watch on the changing managed care industry and provides valuable reimbursement information via e-mail/fax blasts and regular articles in the IAFP’s publication THE FRONTLINE PHYSICIAN" .
- The IAFP works with the AAFP to provide members a CME record keeping system. This service, available only to members, is complimentary and creates one record of the members CME that can be used to document their hours not only for the AAFP, but also the ABFM, AMA,, hospitals, managed care organizations, etc. Members can list their own hours online, or send them to the IAFP or AAFP, using the form provided, to be added to their record. Members can also print their own record or contact the IAFP to request a copy of their CME hours.
These and many other services are offered to members of the Academy. For Academy members, getting key questions answered is a simple matter of picking up the phone. The IAFP and AAFP staff stands by to assist its members and has an array of consultants to contact when we are unable to assist. Members may simply call us when they’re wondering…
- How can I find a partner or a place to practice?
- How can I get hospital privileges for a specific procedure?
- I have a patient that is moving, how do I find the names of other Academy members that I can refer them to?
- How can I study for my Boards?
Members pay a combination of dues for national, state and local Academy memberships. This structure assures members the strength of a national association and the local support of a state chapter all within one organization. Both the AAFP and the IAFP work hard to make the most of members’ dues and at the same time to maximize other revenue sources and to assure that the members’ dues are a true value.
