Clif Knight, MD, Elected to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians

We are pleased to announce that our own H. Clifton “Clif” Knight, MD, FAAFP (Indianapolis) has been elected to the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. As an AAFP board member, Dr. Knight will advocate on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system. Other members from Indiana who have recently served on the AAFP Board of Directors include Dr. Tom Felger (2008-2011), Dr. Jason Marker (2007-2008), and Dr. Tom Kintanar (2003-2006).

Dr. Knight has been a practicing family physician in Indiana for nearly 25 years and has been active in the IAFP since medical school. He currently serves as chief medical officer for Community Health Network in Indianapolis, where he is responsible for quality of care, patient safety, medical education, research and medical staff support. Dr. Knight was in private practice in rural Flora, Indiana before returning to Community Health Network, where he served as Residency Program Director, among other roles. In 2011, he was named to the Board of Trustees for Marian University, home to Indiana’s first new medical school in over 100 years.

A member of the AAFP since 1984, Dr. Knight has served on numerous commissions and committees. He currently serves on the AAFP Commission on Quality and Practice. He is a past chair of the Congress of Delegates Reference Committee on Practice Enhancement and the Awards Subcommittee. Dr. Knight has also served as a delegate or alternate delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates for the past 12 years

At the state level, Dr. Knight has been an active member of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians since his first year of medical school in 1984. Since that time, he has served in one or more leadership positions each year, including past president and board chair. Dr. Knight also has served on the Indiana AFP’s Commissions on Legislation and Education. In 2004, the Indiana AFP awarded Dr. Knight the A. Alan Fischer Award for his outstanding contributions to family medicine education. He was Indiana AFP Student of the Year in 1987.

Dr. Knight earned his undergraduate degree from Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., and his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis. He completed his family medicine residency at Community Health Network in Indianapolis, where he also served one year as chief resident. In addition, Knight holds a Faculty Development Fellowship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.
