Mandated Use Of CHIRP Begins July 1
Beginning July 1, 2015, all healthcare providers who are authorized to administer immunizations will be required to provide data electronically to the state’s Children and Hoosier Immunization Registry Program (CHIRP) for individuals who are less than nineteen (19) years of age. Providers will have seven (7) days from the vaccination date to report the data electronically to CHIRP.
This legislative mandate was signed into law in 2013 by Governor Pence as part of the Healthy People 2020 effort to meet the goal of creating a comprehensive immunization record for all administered vaccines. IAFP worked with the Indiana State Department of Health to amend the introduced version of the legislation to remove penalties and establish a more reasonable timeframe for the mandate.
