The SGR Is Repealed
Breaking news from AAFP Government Relations Staff
This evening, the United States Senate passed the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (H.R. 2) by a vote of 92-8. The Senate defeated six amendments and a budget point of order prior to passing the bill. The legislation was previously passed by the House 392-37 on March 26. The bill now goes to the President for his signature and enactment into law.
Once signed by the President, MACRA will bring an end to the flawed and extremely frustrating sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. Moving beyond the annual exercise of “preventing the SGR cut” is a tremendous accomplishment and deserving of celebration.
Congratulations to the hundreds of AAFP employees who have worked on this issue over the past dozen years. Thank you to our members for their strong and sustained message to legislators about the need to repeal the SGR.
